Language

Portuguese Azores differs slightly from the language of the continent. French and English are spoken at the sights.


Formalities
For French nationals, a passport expiring in less than 5 years or valid national identity card is sufficient.


Religion
The population is 99% Catholic.


Currency
The currency is the euro. Traveler's checks and international credit cards are accepted (American Express, Visa, Eurocard, etc.).. Many vending machines near the banks open on weekdays from 8am  to 15 pm but closed on Saturdays.


Transport
By plane: There are air connections between all the islands. São Miguel and Terceira serve the archipelago. Warning! Some flights operate only once or twice a week.

By boat: in the summer they make regular crossings between Faial, Graciosa, Pico, Sao Jorge and Terceira. Please check the journey times before boarding. For example, it takes 4 hours between Pico and Sao Jorge.

By car: to move within the islands you need to rent a car. In this case, a national driving license or international will be required.

Health
No vaccinations are required.
Remember to obtain the European Health Insurance Card. It replaces the E111 form since 2004. You will receive it within fifteen days after the request from your social security center. This card is personal, valid for one year and works with any member of the European Union.


Electricity
220 V, the plugs are identical to those of France.


Dating
The Azores archipelago has about 400,000 tourists each year, including 5,000 French.


Taxes
At the restaurant leave a tip to the waiter if the service is not included and usually 10% of the fare for a taxi.

Climate & Seasons
The climate is subtropical. Temperatures are mild throughout the year. It is about 16 ° C in winter and 25 ° C in summer. It seldom rains, slightly in February and November. But rain is still rare and short.
